Harper, tell me of the road...
Username: Rowanstone
Character Number: 1st
Name: Sayer
Age: 36
Birth Season: Winter
Gender: Male
Location: Delant Hold
Rank: The Mastercrafter
Craft: Coggler
That leads beyond this hold...
Appearance: Sayer is a noticeable figure, but we'll get to that later. His skin is a light brown and his hair, as well as his eyes, are the same, save for they are dark instead. His hair is of a medium length which rests just below his shoulders and is nearly always neatly tucked behind his ears. He cultivates a full beard that he allows to grow more thickly off of his chin so that it poofs out in such a manner as to draw more attention to itself than the rest of his facial hair. All facial hair, save the chin poof is neatly combed down. His ears are odd, a little longer than they should be and less wide than appears normal. His lower lip slightly plump and appears to be perpetually pursed because of it. Sayer's entire figure could be described as either lanky, lean or anything between, though not necessarily consistently. His hands seem odd and if one took the time to understand why they would notice his palms were quite large for his figure and that his fingers are scaled up to match while remaining quite slim and boney.
That wends its way around the hill...
Personality: Sayer is a visionary, at least that is what he would call himself. He believes the world can be a better place. A more efficiently run place. A place where ludicrous amounts of resources are not wasted on lumbering lizards that are only useful for a generation out of every four and the elite few that they deign to allow onto their overstuffed backs!
Sayer believes he can change the world for the better. He hates the stagnant society he was brought up in and seeks to challenge it where he can. He does not do it as a petty naysayer. He does not say black because other people say white. He decisively examines society for where it is useful and where it has so clearly fallen behind. Such as the overreliance on bottomless stomachs with wings.
If he has one problem (he is unaware of such a thing) it is that certain social norms escape him. For example, he is prone to giving any passersby within the confines of his collegium tasks, and he genuinely expects them to be followed regardless of whether they are his students, someone else's or just a passing traveller. It simply does not occur to him that a person would be inside his structure without the urge to fulfill his needs.
Does it go farther on until...
History: Sayer was apprenticed when he was ten, partially because his family was large, partially because he wanted to be away from them all and partially because he had always had dexterous fingers and he loved using them to create delicate objects. The man beneath whom he apprenticed is not someone he remembers fondly outside of the workings of the craft he taught. If questioned about it he will speak positively of the lessons themselves, but sour if any queries are directed towards the character of his old mentor. He will not give a name to the man and it really does seem as if he wishes to forget all about him.
The greatest accomplishments Sayer has are the most important pieces of his life. First, his ability to craft clockwork artifice earned him the title of Mastercoggler of Pern at the age of 29. His boisterous personality and vision of a more efficient world were as much a contributing factor in that decision as his skill. His second great feat was to have the Collegium created so that a massive center for the crafting arts and learning in general would spring forth as a beacon to all that wished to better themselves. Upon the opening of the Collegium he received five firelizard eggs, as he had always expressed a fondness for them. When the time for them to hatch, he was only able to impress two. The gold he named Veigle and the blue he named Spring.
It is no secret that the political sway of his position secures him effective control of Delant Hold and control over the majority of the resources it produces. It is an open secret that he would never allow blood to supersede reason where so many people's welfare is at stake.
It ends in sunset gold?
Pets:
Pet Name: Veigle
Pet Appearance: Veigle is a steady shade of bright yellow along her entire body save for where her markings appear. Beneath her chin, on her back and down the length of her tail are patches of white. Her tail fork and wing tips are edged in orange. She has an orange line over the top of her snout. Additionally, on her head knobs, there is a white stripe with orange stripes flanking it that ring around them.
Pet Personality: Veigle is the picture of an animal that is used to being pampered. She is cold to the general public, but once a person penetrates her defenses she is friendly when she feels she will get the attention she desires out of them. Generally speaking she will be content to lay around and watch what is going on around whilst putting on haughty airs.
Pet Name: Spring
Pet Appearance: Spring is a bright blue that evenly covers his entire body. The bottom edge of his wings have deep blue, brushed markings that creep in from the edges towards the top. There is a blaze centered on his forehead that is white. Across the tops of his wings there is a starfield of white flecks.
Pet Personality: Spring is short-tempered with strangers. He will snap at them if he feels they are getting out of place. He does not like it when other people get near what he assumes are his and he does not like to be separated from his charges. He will often stand between Sayer's feet and stare balefully at other people as if daring them to come closer or cross him.
