Wheel and turn, or bleed and burn...
Username: AgriasNesme
Character Number: First
Rider:
Name: J'tan (Jetan)
Age: 29 Turns
Birth Season: Born in Spring
Gender: Male
Location: Bivium Weyr
Rank: Wingleader
Fly between, blue and green...
Appearance: J'tan, at full height, brushes just over 6'2", a respectable, if not glorious, height for a Bronzerider. His grain-blonde hair is tucked back into a tightly-bound ponytail that reaches just below his shoulderblades, a habit retained from his Hold-borne days that he never quite released, with his bangs framing his sharp, angular face. His birth's aristocracy can be seen in his piercing blue eyes, though laugh and worry lines lightly crinkle above his high cheekbones. Discipline and the physical rigors of becoming a Rider have toned his body into a lithe, if strong, frame.
J'tan frequently wears his riding leathers, though when he is not, he prefers to go for light fare, weather permitting, in darker colours, especially greens and browns. Never far away from his riding boots, he is always clad in some form of long trouser. He lacks any form of scar or tattoo, though he wouldn't be averse to wearing one if he could find a decent reason for it. He has a pair of birthmarks on his lower left calf in the form of two oddly-formed triangles that consist of a darker pigment than the remainder of his well-tanned flesh.
Soar, dive down, bronze and brown...
Personality: J'tan is, generally speaking, a quiet, no-nonsense sort, though this does not mean he has no sense of humor. This attitude is a holdover from his days in the Hold, and he's never quite given that habit up. His exterior is by no means rough, he simply does not relate very well with others unless the situation absolutely calls for it. He makes no secret of his love of children, and spends what time he can with them, frequently attending Gathers when he can to see the happiness of the people he protects when their eyes are free of worry. When there is no Gather to be found, and the Weyr has no need of his presence, he frequently spends his free time with Benden Hold's Harpers. While rare, he loves visiting the Harpercrafthall, as well.
Becoming a Dragonrider has removed much of his anger at his lot in life, as becoming a Rider removed him from the political arena and gossip of Bitra Hold as surely as it removed him from his mother. He cares for his partner, Lecarth, and spends much time trying to teach him why he feels a particular way at a particular time. Patient and studious, J'tan's temper can most quickly be ignited by threatening or insulting the Weyr, or the children around him. He cares absolutely nothing for political aspirations or backdoor deals, and frequently laughs at the 'petty foolishness of trying to be the prettiest prince'.
Dragonmen must fly...
History: Born in the year 168 as the first son of Bitra's Lord and Lady Holder, Jetan's birth was cursed, rather than celebrated. His mother, the dark-haired Lady Holder, had not been wholly loyal to her dark-haired husband, and this was revealed when she gave birth to a fair-haired child. She admitted her infidelity with one of the Hold's strong smiths, and so the child was raised by his loving mother and her angry husband.
For thirteen years, the child grew, raised to carry himself with noble bearing and great gravity of demeanor. He knew that his 'father' would never allow him to inherit, oldest son of the Lady Holder and heir apparent though he may be. Jetan was relegated to caring for many of the children in the Hold to earn marks for the Gathers, even going so far as to take up training under the resident Journeyman Healer so that he might treat any small injuries the children might receive in their play. In the Summer season of his thirteenth year, Bitra Hold hosted several of the Dragonriders of Eastern Weyr on Search, and the fair-haired bastard found approval with the dragons. Bitra's Lord Holder gladly gave Jetan over, knowing that the odds were that the child would either Impress or be destroyed on the hot sands of the Weyr's Hatching Grounds in the chaos of the Hatching.
Whirled away from his home, his mother, and his training, Jetan retained his noble bearing on the hot sands, letting not a whit of his discomfort at standing on the hot sands show on his face. His Impression was a particularly calm one, with only two severely injured participants, largely in part because of Jetan's efforts. Because his dragon, bronze Lecarth, hatched later than some, Jetan was forced to negotiate the chaos, trying to prevent injury to the unfortunate candidates where he could. As he pushed and pulled through the chaos of the Hatching, he hoped to unite himself with his partner, if he had one. He eventually ended up dragging two other candidates out of the way of hatchlings that were not fated to be their own and at once, he felt the bond of Impression, and found his companion, the ravenous Lecarth. J'tan knelt before Lecarth, eyes alight with completion and joy, and joyfully took the hatchling out to to feed, not caring for anything but his companion's happiness, even when Lecarth's feeding grew particularly messy.
As Lecarth matured, his presence forced a calming element to the angry young man's life, forcing him to grow up, and his training with the Weyr's wings reinforced that, turning him into a strong, able dragonrider by the time he was 18 turns of age. After impressing the Eastern Wingsecond, a Brownrider he'd come to regard as a true father figure with his discipline and, most importantly, his ability to keep his tongue in his head, he was given a pair of fire lizard eggs. These eggs hatched into his loving, if slightly 'chatty', and constant companions, Bronze Hunter and Brown Ferret.
Over the next 15 Turns, J'tan would find his studies somewhat difficult, but he paid avid attention to his Weyrleader and, especially, to his Wingleader during drills and flight training. J'tan quickly established himself as a hard-working, if somewhat quiet, member of the Weyr. He professed, multiple times, that he would serve the Weyr loyally until his death for saving him from the uncertainty of his childhood, and for saving him from having to look over his shoulder for a knife waiting to strike.
J'tan, as a Rider underneath S'elm's own flight, answered to S'elm's Wingsecond, R'elm, the very man whose dragon bore him from Bitra those many years ago, and the one who had given him his fire lizard companions. R'elm had overseen J'tan's lessons many a time, and knew the young man looked at him like a son looks to a father. When J'tan was in his 25th Turn, R'elm quietly shared words with his brother and Weyrleader, S'elm, about the promising young Rider. As an experiment, they gave J'tan the position of Wingsecond for Eastern's second wing, and then as the Wingleader with the former Wingleader acting as Wingsecond. They watched him closely for the next few years, seeing if he could handle the responsibility. Satisfied, they selected J'tan as their candidate to represent Eastern at Bivium in the Weyr's leadership.
When Threads are in the sky!
Pets:
Pet Name: Hunter
Pet Appearance: Hunter is the average length for a bronze firelizard, extending from J'tan's shoulder to the center of his palm when he's lazy enough to rest. However, he is a good deal sleeker than many bronze fire lizards, having taken to regular exercise and flight at the behest of his partner, J'tan. He is lithely muscled, like his partner, and his eyes frequently whirl curiously, as though eager to take everything around him in. His colouration is mottled bronze, with patches, especially around the joints, that gleam more brass than bronze. When freshly-oiled after a wash, this disparity is enough to nearly call his colouration copper, around his neck.
Pet Personality: Hunter is as no-nonsense as his partner, J'tan, though he is generally always in a chipper, good mood. The fire lizard prefers to rely on his own hunting for food, though he'll happily take his partner's offerings. He is incredibly curious, and very outgoing, but he has managed to learn to be polite when it comes to creeling around others. He touches no human or dragon his partner does not allow him to touch, though he might hover annoyingly around J'tan's vicinity and chitter curiously at everything that garners his attention. He absolutely loves shiny things.
Pet Name: Ferret
Pet Appearance: Ferret is strong, sleek, and large, just managing to extend from J'tan's shoulder almost to his wrist in length, though he is incredibly sleek and streamlined. His mottled brown hue changes in tone, lighter on the belly and darker, very much darker on the patch that follows his spine and tail. Broader of snout than most fire lizards, Ferret can curl his face into a very mischievous grin, especially when looking at you with his muzzle flattened to the viewer's perspective.
Pet Personality: Ferret is extremely mischievous, and while he shares his 'brother's' penchant for scrounging for his own food, he frequently curls around J'tan's neck and keeps his creeling to a minimum until he finds a likely mark at whom to jump out and squeal loudly. His multicolored eyes whirl in nonstop mirth, and, as curious as Hunter, he actively seeks out any and all secrets he might be able to share with his partner, J'tan. With over ten years of practice, he's gotten extremely good at ferreting out things that J'tan needs to know.
Pet Name: Spotter
Pet Appearance: Spotter is sleek and small, even for a green firelizard. Her slim, toned musculature is smaller than average, and the angular nature of her extremities and muzzle give her a more stern countenance than perhaps a flitter of her stature should bear. Her eyes are purely tempered curiousity, and her body, while seeming frail to the touch, is strong and refined. Her colouration, while it doesn't stray from the typical green of body, does bear a remarkable resemblance to a dappled dark emerald.
Pet Personality: Spotter reflects the inner nature of her partner and cousins very well, though she is less outgoing than both Ferret and Hunter. Perhaps due to her small size, she far more shy about her curiousity, and she is never far from J'tan's neck, her favorite place to curl up. She refuses to take food from anyone save J'tan, not even from her older 'siblings', Ferret and Hunter, and does not like to venture out on her own to hunt. She is not confrontational at all, and when she senses anger or distress in a situation, she will flit back to J'tan's neck and crawl under his shirt. This usually exacerbates the problem that caused her to hide, but there is hope that she will become more confident. She is, after all, merely a newborn.
