Weft flitted happily ahead, a small red cape fluttering along his back as he landed by the lake. He turned and crooned softly at Seldrimme and Etarith, shifting from foot to foot, excited by their little explore. He was out with HIS girls and it was positively exciting!
How deep is it, Drimmine? How come we have not bathed here before? Is the water cold? Can we bathe here all the time?
Etarith’s questions flooded over in Seldrimme’s mind and the slender woman took a deep breath, surveying the area and setting down a large pack of bathing supplies. The little gold queen nosed around through the grass and Seldrimme said little in return, choosing to let Etarith find her own answers. This wasn’t entirely unexpected or displeasing for the curious dragon, and so she stepped into the water, making an attempt at maintaining a regal bearing but shivering at the cold. The shiver set her off balance and she tipped over on her side, splashing Weft, sending him darting away.
Seldrimme couldn’t help but laugh, knowing that Etarith was fine in everything but pride. Etarith ruffled her wings, breathing out noisily a moment, before asking:
Are you going to come in and bathe me now, Drimmine? You are not going to wear those dreadful things you wore last time, are you?
Seldrimme tensed a bit, remembering. The first time she had bathed and oiled Etarith had been a bit… messy. The oil had ruined a nice bit of fabric; she hadn’t counted on it getting as all over the place as it had. The next time she had worn a really heavy, cheap, coarse cloth. Not only had it been uncomfortable against her skin and Etarith’s hide, but Etarith had asked her many, many questions about why she wanted to look that way, why she did not wish to look more appealing and attractive, and then the conversation had started to go down a path that Seldrimme was not comfortable with at all. If not for a group of firelizards popping in and becoming a distraction she was sure there would have been many more uncomfortable questions.
“We could have bathed back at the baths. It would have been more convenient.”
There was a bluuue in there. He would have staared at me, which would have been fine, but not while I’m bathing. Maybe if it were a bronze, I would let him have a peek. Which bronze rider do you like best, Drimmine?
Seldrimme could not deny the possibility that the pretty little gold would have drawn attention, and she was proud of it. Etarith stretched, feeling the pride through the bond, and then turned, waiting for an answer to her question.
“Such things are irrelevant, Etarith.” Here she grabbed what she needed from the bag and loosed the long piece of fabric wrapped around her body. “Weft. Look.” The little firelizard stared at her, head tilted, and she repeated the command twice more before he blinked slowly, understanding. Seldrimme heard a series of *Poofs* and a fluttering of wings and then had a few images from around the area, seeing just the grass and the waterfall and herself and Etarith. She let the long fabric fall, wearing under it inexpensive but soft cloth she had woven herself. The green was a variegated colour so even stained with oil it would be wearable. The outfit was simple, two matched pieces of cloth, each cut to wrap just right, one around her top and the other around her bottom. Her midriff was bare, which was fine for this task, done in private. Etarith took this in and her pleasure at the change made Seldrimme nearly blush.
With that, Seldrimme took what she needed from the bag and slipped into the water, eager to get her hands on the hide of her bonded.
