Oohh, Mine. You've got just the spot, please scrub right..no..n-Yes! Right there! Your Ivaeuth likes that a lot.
The early morning had given way to a warm afternoon, in which Syreaka was steadily working on bathing her dragon as lovingly and dotingly as she could manage. Of course, the dragonette was only destined to get larger, but in the meantime, she’d relish that this job didn’t take beyond forever and a day. That and, her weyrmate, Ivaeuth, loved the attentions of the stiff brush she was using and the attentive fire lizards scrubbing her back. Oh please, more...You got it. Almost done, really!
Syreaka grinned, her eyes twinkling lightly with a faint smile. The woman tilted her head to the side with another scrub as she said, “Really, Ivaeuth. You positively gleam as it is, really.” I know, but should not your Ivaeuth gleam with the beauty she possesses? How else will she look lovely for the bronzes when she gets bigger?
Syreaka laughed as those great whirling eyes turned to look up at her. Reaching back, the woman quickly adjusting her tunic and trousers, already damp from the water. Her two fire lizards trilled with contentment as they worked to scrub the dragon’s hide, clearly enjoying their game before they pulled back, finished. The Queen’s rider grinned, “All done, love. Sink down into the water and rinse, ok?” The little dragon obliged, sinking in before surging up, splashing her rider as though a last big of resistance to her requests. Soon, Syreaka was soaked, hands on her hips as her pleased dragonette seemed to snicker in reply.

With all the excitement, Kildare had barely had any time pay attention to his canine, Dach. Cooped up since they'd arrived two days before, Dach had a serious case of cabin fever. After visiting with his brother for the first time that morning (during which, Lach had turned out to be more proud since the original shock had worn off), Kildare had taken pity on the poor hunting dog, and determined today was the day he'd get Dach used to the Weyr. Gradually, of course. The canine wasn't used to a place full of humans and Kildare had been keeping him tied up until he could be sure the big beast would cause no trouble. It had been strange to have to find a lead for Dach. He'd never used them on the dog before, but he figured it was better to be safe than sorry in this situation.
It was unfortunate that he and Dach didn't see eye to eye on this subject.
As soon as he'd untied the lead he'd secured Dach with, the large canine, fed up with being cooped up for so long after being used to having the freedom to roam, jerked from his owner's grip and bounded off as fast as his four paws could go. With a shout, Kildare had taken off after him. That was how they ended up chasing the hound all over the Weyr.
"DACH!" he bellowed. Kildare barely ever bellowed, but when he did... well, he was as good at it as his brother. He just rarely felt the need to.
He was feeling that need now.
The canine ignored him and headed towards the lake, where a glint of gold had caught his eye. Dach was a big canine, and while most certainly not as long as the little Queenling he was about just as tall... and heading right for her. Kildare was following closely, but not nearly close enough to stop the dog as he raced towards the pair. Kildare's expression grew horrified as he tried to push himself faster. Unfortunately even his long legs couldn't make up the distance and Dach reached the pair before he could catch up.
Dach, however, had more planned that bowling over the Queen. At the last moment, at the very edge of the water, he checked his speed and instead of barreling into the little Gold he bounded straight over her with a huge leap. The resulting splash on the other side thoroughly soaked him. Dach, however, didn't seem to mind one bit. His master was less lucky, though, and even as Kildare tried to stop, the sand at the edge of the water slid from under his feet and the tall, lanky man went down hard. He skidded painfully into the water, and when he finally stopped he opened his green eyes to find himself nose-to-muzzle with a golden Queenling.
"GAH!"

“Really now, Ivaeuth! I still have to oil you, and now I’m drenched and you’ll have to wait for me to change!” Syreaka stared down sternly at the little Queen whose eyes whirled apologetically up at the woman. The new rider couldn’t be made for long, and she sighed, “I forgive you, love, but you do know I’m not changing my mind on getting changed. You realize this.” But..I itch I think.
“I’m sure you do, but I’m not changing my mind. The trunk with my clothes is right next to the oil at any rate, and I know you don’t itch yet you silly thing.” I am not silly. I am Ivaeuth. Though, Oh..Ciri, did you get that itch? Oh thank you, my friend!
Syreaka just smirked, shaking her head before she sighed, glancing over at the fire lizards with a light smile. Sure enough, her golden fire lizard Ciri was helping scrub Ivaeuth’s back with a zeal that was almost surprising to see. A light chuckle, Syreaka was startled when the trumpet of surprise immitted from her Weyrmate’s muzzle. What in the-Get away, you..thing!
That was when the canine leaped over Ivaeuth’s back, the startled dragon backing up and knocking the surprised Syreaka over into the water with a loud splash. As Kildare stumbled close to her muzzle, Ivaeuth managed to settled down just enough to stare balefully at the man who was sprawled on the ground before her muzzle. Her eyes whirled in irritation, faint hints of red as she stared silently, not sure if she should glare or not and only aware that she was getting testy and deigned to speak in frustration to the man but a single phrase, the speech out of character for her. What ARE you doing?!

Kildare scrambled back as fast as he could possibly manage from the little Queenling. "I-I-I-- Shards-- I'm-- I'm sorry!" he stuttered, scrambling to his feet once he had backed away from the small, Gold dragon. He was soaked from his waist down, his arms as well, and was covered in wet sand from where's he'd sat in it. He turned to her rider-- a girl he didn't recognize-- and waved his hands in front of himself. Shards, couldn't Faranth have cursed him worse? It was a girl. The first girl he'd met at the Weyr, and he'd already embarrassed himself in front of her. And worse, he couldn't stop stuttering either! She was going to think him an idiot. "I didn't mean-- I'm sorry, I--" he blushed faintly in embarrassment and took a deep breath. "I-I'm really s-sorry. I d-didn't mean to cause any trouble. My..." he looked after where Dach had run off to. He could see the canine, dragonlengths away, dragging a fish from the water.
How he'd caught one so fast was beyond Kildare.
"Dach, he's my canine--" he still seemed incredibly nervous, despite the fact that he didn't stutter, "--he got a-a-away." Well, he didn't stutter as much. "Listen, I'msorryhe'sbeencoopedupsinceIgothereandwhenIwenttotakehimouthegotlooseandifhescared yourdragonI'mREALLYsorryandifIscaredherthenI'Mreallysorry--" his jaw snapped shut as he realized he was running his words together and rambling. His hair fell into his face as he shunted his green gaze away, unable to look at her and see the kind of impression he'd just made on her.

Ivaueth’s eyes whirled in an irritated fashion, bobbing her head but a bit as though to shake out what was going on. Syreaka took notice of it and frowned at her weyrmate, Ivaeuth, you’re not getting angry, are you?No, I am not. I am more frustrated, startled and ready to be oiled.
As if to punctuate what she was feeling, Ivaeuth, naughty creature that she was, rumbled at the boy. However, it was Syreaka who stared at him in interest. She quirked an eyebrow as he began to stutter. The poor man was soaked to the bone, and apparently frightened. You scared him dear.No I am not.
Syreaka eyed her dragon for a moment before looking back at the stumbling man, clearly confused. No one had ever had that kind of reaction before around her, and she couldn’t quite say who was more surprised by it! She did wait for a moment for him to finish before she spoke, at which point she opted to just speak gently instead of forcefully, which was her first inclination thanks to how scared he was and the whole thing generally around the entire meeting. She sighed, pushing her wet hair from her face and said, “Please take a deep breath and calm down. It’s fine. Ivaueth isn’t hurt and neither am I, we’re only wet. And Dach seems perfectly cheerful..and oddly unfrightened of dragons.” The woman took a moment to consider the canine before looking back at Kildare, raising an eyebrow at the man. Was he still going to flip out again? Of course, Ivaueth had her own comments to add, as usual, forming her own opinions as any queen obviously should. What is he, stupid? Mine, he must be speaking another language... Ivaeuth! Thank whatever was in the heavens that Ivaeuth was only talking to her, and not so that the man could hear.
