Kildare is very much in the cute, lanky, and clumsy stage. His arms and legs seem to long, causing him to constantly be knocking things over or running into things. He has the potential for muscle, but when he finished growing he wouldn't be as tall or muscular as his elder brother L'chlan. In fact, he will probably never measure up to his brother's size in height nor bulk. Currently, though, he does stand at an even six feet tall; height and size run in his family, even the women in his family tend to be tall. His hands are large and broad, covered in calluses.
He keeps his pitch-coloured hair just shy of shoulder length, and no matter what he does with it, it seems to always be slightly messy and in his face. No matter what, though, he never seems to cut it shorter. It's almost as if he prefers it to be a little wild. Or maybe he just prefers to hide his face behind it at times; he hasn't said.
His face, itself, is made of a broad, straight nose and a strong brow. His eyes are that of his mother's: a sharp green always full of intent, thought, or curiosity. He has a strong jaw reaching up into solid cheekbones and a high forehead. At sixteen turns old, Kildare has yet to see much in the way of facial hair, but his features are already strengthening into those of a man and, annoyingly, the rest of the hair one gets with maturation seems to have no such delays. It's obvious he's still in the midst of puberty, though the worst of the acne he once had is past. His voice is deep, but is pitched fairly softly. It rarely cracks anymore, either.
Naturally, Kildare sports many scars from farm work and hunting, the most interesting being the long, jagged scar up the far left side of his ribcage from an early hunting attempt gone wrong.
Personality: Kildare is not nearly as arrogant or confident as his brother L'chlan. In fact, most people would just call him downright shy. This would be untrue, Kildare isn't shy, he's just... socially awkward. He hasn't spent much time outside of their cothold in the north, only recently having started making the trips to the southern Gathers to sell goods with his father and brothers. That beings said, his attitude actually leans more towards an I-just-don't-know-how-to-talk-to-people attitude. Unfortunately, unlike L'chlan, he hasn't grown into himself, and he's not even that good at pretending confidence. This is especially true in interacting with women. He just can't seem to keep his wits about him when he's around women, excluding the youngest female children and his sisters. He's especially good at getting his sentences backwards and knocking over the strangest things in his confusion. Most women he's met have left him either laughing or screaming, and none of his encounters have yet to give him any sort of boost.
This is a shame, for Kildare is actually very bright and intelligent. His innovative mind has bettered their family's farming and beast breeding for many a year at home, and with his suggestions his family has already produced twice what they had been before while still maintaining a renewable environment. His intelligence hardly ends there, however. He is exceedingly good with maths and numbers, and he shares his brother's talent for strategics.
He is a fiercely loyal and protective person with a heart that is always in the right place, and most often puts others before himself. To top off these qualities, he has also inherited the family stubborn streak. While he's less likely to speak up if he's unsure of something, when he does know he'll speak up and argue, even get angry if he has to. Generally, however, Kildare is more likely to persuade than to argue, and is rather less blunt about it.
He has strangely keen senses, especially his sense of smell, which only seems to aide in one of his favourite hobbies: hunting. Given a canine at a young age, Kildare quickly took to hunting like a fish to water. He's hardly a brilliant hunter, but he enjoys it greatly. It's a sport that not only takes intellect, strategy, and patience, but it also practical and useful.
History: Brother to L'chlan, Kildare also shares the large family: Carter (35), Brodie (33), Lachlan (30), Maggie (29), Branwen (24), Kassidy (20), Seamus (18), Machara (18), Kildare (16), Honoria (10), Fergus (5) (named after his father, who is also a Fergus). Life in his home seemed always to be a battle, and to this day his still has no idea how his mother, Isobel, handled the lot of them. With Lachlan, he lived in a small northern cothold that relied mostly on it's farming.
Being only a small babe when his brother was searched, he was never incredibly close to Lachlan, although the three eldest brothers, Carter, Brodie, and Lachlan, were always very similar to each other. This meant whenever his brother came home, Kildare often found himself feeling as if he already knew the man.
Growing up so secluded had its downsides, however, and Kildare never had much interaction with anyone outside his family, which largely contributed to his awkwardness.
His history, if you ask him, is largely uneventful. He grew up helping on the farm. Yes, he often helped his father in devising better irrigation systems or breeding patterns, but he really thrived in maths. One winter, an especially harsh one, a Journeyman Smith who had been up to help with a few of the smaller, mechanized farm tools was snowed in by a particularly bad storm. Discovering Kildare's talent for maths had been one of the highlights of the Smith's stay that winter, and Kildare spent the winter learning maths and the basics of machinery. When the roads were clear and the Smithy left, he left an invitation that Kildare would be welcome in the hall. At the time, Kildare was too young, and the family was stuck by a bout of back luck with their livestock and a winter sickness. That spring, to make it up to him, their father got him Dach, and while he was still too young and they were still having a rough time with their animals, Kildare was content.
On a spring trip the the Hold proper down south, Kildare met his first ever Dragonrider. Surprised, the rider had stared at him intently, wondering if he knew the boy. The Blue he rode studied him intently too as Kildare tried to edge around them in the courtyard without staring. Then the Blue promptly informed his rider that they needed the brother to Douglath's and stomped over to the boy. Kildare is rather unsure of exactly how events unfolded, after that, but the next thing he remembered, the Bluerider was warning him about going Between...
So Kildare had accepted his Search, and was on his way to his borther's Weyr.
Pet Name: Dach (DAHK)
Pet Appearance: Please see here for original Deviation.
Dach is a very large canine, having his heritage in the lupine genealogy of old Terra. His fur is dark, matte black with dark grey along the underside of his belly. His eyes are an intense green in the mid-range, not dark not bright nor light. In fact, it's really not the colour that makes them intense, but the way he stares with them, as if he understands everything.
Pet Personality: Dach is not an especially trusting canine. Brought up with only the family, he doesn't like crowds or strangers much. He's a hunting canine, which means he prefers to be out and about rather than couped up. He's highly protective of Kildare, and when first meeting a stranger he doesn't trust, will not leave Kildare's side until he's sure Kildare is safe. While generally a bit of a loner, Dach has no qualms about curling up with Kildare at night or sleeping with the boy.
