L'chlan gave Syreaka a dark look and opened his mouth, debating on really starting in on her when he heard a voice that he knew distinctly. J'tan. He'd been so focused on Syreaka that he didn't notice his Wingleader had been in the room as well. He turned to look J'tan's way and met his gaze and read more in that than he'd gotten from his words. He paused and nodded relunctantly before settling back in his chair, large arms crossing over his broad chest. He let out a rush of air and gave Syreaka one last look that said that was luck before he turned his gaze to rest heavily on the eggs.
He seemed to strugle with his anger for a moment before he gained control over it, and instead focused on the eggs. "You should probably offer some to the Collegium." he suggested. It was his way of saying he would let this drop.
((Sorry, failpost, vaguely braindead.))

Syreaka glanced over at L'chlan after J'tan spoke before she nodded at the Wingleader, "Alright then, J'tan. Thank you." Still in her cool state, Syreaka could not help that she was still expecting a rebuke. She'd handled the entire situation far differently than Threaka ever would have, but perhaps for her, that was a good thing. Deltra's eyes were whirling violently, and the little green quickly poofed onto the girl's shoulder, bobbing her little head back and forth. The woman reached up to stroke the green softly before she walked over to the eggs, leaning over to look in the basket, gently stroking the sides of it in a surprisingly gentle manner. "That is a very good idea, L'chlan. In fact, I will do so..." The woman stared down at the basket for a moment in thought before she smiled, glancing over at Taliene, "Harper Taliene, would you mind helping me with the delivery of doing so? I know you go there from time to time." "Also....," the candidate then looked at Rhiskyraenen and smiled softly, "If you would, might I ask you to take one or two of these to M'tak? They may be from a green's clutch, but we're all here in this Weyr together and have to work together. I'd like to send them as a 'May we work well in the future'. And if you like, I would gladly give you one as well, for the same reasons of course." "Also...if anyone else would like one, have them talk to me? I want these to go to good homes," Syreaka glanced up at Deltra, who crooned immediately, causing the girl's expression to soften, "They deserve that." That was when the enterprising Headwoman appeared once more, without the basket but with several piles of what looked like fur and people carrying pots filled with sand. The woman smirked, patted SYreaka on the shoulder, before walking out, leaving the bewildered candidate staring at the efficient headwoman in surprise. Immediately, what was left of her anger had evaporated immediately, and she could only say incredulously, "Did she read my mind or something? Or is she just psychic?"

J'tan quickly checked the pouch at his waist and counted his marks, tallying them in his head for a moment before nodding to himself. With a quick burst of emotion, Ferret and Hunter appeared one to each shoulder, chirruping quietly at him before moving down to croon over Deltra and her eggs.
"If it'd be possible, Syreaka, these two would like a younger cousin to care for."
He smiled quietly to himself, feeling the excitement his two partners were oh-so capable of inflicting upon him.
"And do let me know what I can trade for one, if you don't mind. I'm sure the rest of the Wing would follow suit; it's only fair, of course."
With that, he sent a quick though to Lecarth, who began to tell other dragons of Syreaka's new fortune. It wouldn't be right not to give others a chance, after all.

((ooc-So everyone knows, to be as absolutely fair as I could, I randomized which number egg you get, as in reality, there isn't a true way to tell which firelizard is in what egg. It's the same here. Briarwind is under strict orders/agreements to not tell me what is in these eggs. This is so that the colors you get are an absolute surprise for everyone! Be sure you PM her which number egg you got and any preparations you take in getting ready for your hatchling. )) Syreaka blinked, looking up at J'tan, who had quickly moved into action at her offer of granting a firelizard egg to anyone who really wanted one. She took a slight step back in surprise as Deltra's tail quickly wrapped about the girl's neck. The green, to her credit, didn't hiss or react at all, and it was but mere moments when Syreaka relaxed enough to smile and nod, "Of course, J'tan. I will gladly give you a younger cousin for your other two." Syreaka was suddenly thrilled. It wasn't just that her firelizard had clutched. It was that people were wanting to give them homes, and for some reason, this was a great feeling to her. She really believed that this was amazing. Not only were some going to people for peace offerings, but maybe..just maybe...people could be thrilled with what was occuring as well as she did. Shifting through the pots and bags the headwoman had brought, she did as she had always been taught. Gently brushing the sand aside enough to place a small egg within, she covered it than the lid and handed it to J'tan, "No marks, no trade...call it a gift. The Weyr is giving food for the hatching of these, yes? I'll be thrilled if they're cared for."

Lach watched the echanges going on around him, still fuming a little at the outcome of the situation. When J'tan spoke up and Lach realized he was offering to pay marks for the eggs he lifted his brow in surprise. The man seriously wanted another? Sometimes Lach felt as though he had a handful of them with just Lucia... despite the fact that she was only one. Technically. He was so distracted by the troubling thoughts that he didn't notice Lucia had made her way to the basket and was standing on her hinds legs, clutching the rim of the backset and peering in before she buried her head in the sands as if she could get a better look at the eggs.
When he did notice, however, Lach scowled and reached out, dragging her back with little force as she squawked angrily as his untoward behaviour. She was not a doll to be manhandled and she let him know it as she gave him a chirping tongue-licking. He ignored this comepletely, of course. Lach was used to her hissy fits.

Taliene blinked at Syreaka's request to send some of the eggs to the collegium, and smiled, "I'd be honored to take them, if I may request a ride to the Collegium. Please, just pick them out for me, and I'll gladly deliver them." The Harper was honored, looking at the eggs before beginning to help set up the pots the way they needed to be set up for people to carry them, "Just set however many you're going to hand for me to take, and I will take them carefully there. You won't have to worry at all." Taliene made up her mind to do a good job with this, and so she would. The Harper always went through with her word, and meant every thing she said.

J'tan's smile brightened considerably as he nodded his thanks towards Syreaka.
"A better heart than most, Syreaka. My thanks. I'll be sure to take great care of the little one."
With that, the Wingleader took the pot of sand and cradled it against his hip as he looked out over the room. His precious treasure secure, he nodded quickly.
"L'chlan, do remember that we have drills and a hunt tomorrow morning. I'll want us in proper form before the sevenday is done. On that note, Headwoman, would you mind terribly if you could get some fellis juice to the barracks? I've a feeling more than one of my riders, myself included, will need it tonight."
He smiled and patted Syreaka's shoulder companionably. Draining the last of his klah before heading out, he was exceedingly careful with his cargo as he made his way towards his weyr, preparing for a long night's rest.

L'chlan looked up again at J'tan's words and nodded, "I've remembered, and will be rested and on time." He was hardly ever late. "Keep your fires hot tonight." he finished by way of goodbye. He stretched himself and, setting Lucia on his shoulder, moved to stand.
"Harper Taliene, I offer the services of Douglath and myself as transport to the Collegium once you've gone and picked out your eggs. Best to get them by a fire as soon as possible." he ran his hand over his mouth and down his jaw as he glanced at the doorway. "Just give word when you're ready and we shall be on our way." It wasn't that he didn't like people, but Lach just wasn't much for crowds, and as word had gone out that there was a clutch of firelixards in the kitchens, he expected the crowds to come flooding in at any moment and he preferred to be out of the way when that happened.

Rhiskyraenen blinked, startled by Syreaka's address, and drew himself up to his full height before executing a deep, practiced bow, low and respectful. The girl had startled him, and his youth spent being extraordinarily differential to women kicked in without so much as a by-your-leave, dropping him into a very formal mode. "It would be my great personal honour to bring your gift to M'tak," he replied somberly. "Your dedication and commitment to the wellbeing of the Weyr is admirable." It didn't even strike him that she'd offered one of the eggs to him. He'd heard the words, of course, but somehow, they hadn't sunk in, in light of the general poleaxing she'd given him. He was frankly proud of himself for managing to put together such coherent thoughts. Where was the Threaka in her? He remembered the one visit he recalled from the Eastern Weyrwoman in his youth, and the insufferable personality she'd displayed. This girl wasn't living up to that infuriating, intolerable creature, and it confounded him. This was no power play or temper tantrum. Or was it? Could she be fishing for something, manipulating things to try to gain an advantage? There was a reason Rhiskyraenen hated politics.

Syreaka nodded and smiled up at J'tan, watching the man leave before turning back to the clutch, taking care to move the basket to be near the hearth where it'd be warmer. Nodding in satisfaction, she smiled before looking up at those gathered, "Thank you, Harper. I appreciate the help." The woman then began pulling out several more eggs, setting them into their pots for safety as she said, "These are for you to take to the collegium. The clutch isn't huge like a gold's would be...but I'm sure you'll care for them well. As with everyone else, you can have one if you like." She then turned to look at the gold that L'chlan snatched away and laughed. Then blinked when he began getting up as the Harper was thanking him for his offer of a ride. She bit her lip before she smiled a bit, her voice sincere. Despite their spat, he was still part of this Weyr, and if she could offer M'tak and Rhis an egg, she could offer L'chlan, "L'chlan, if you want, I would like to offer you one as well. I know you'd take good care of it...that is if you'll accept it." It was then that Deltra choose to chirp, inspecting her eggs with an avid curiosity. A green may not be very motherly, but at least she was active and inquisitive, and Syreaka knew she'd not trade the lizard for anything else in the world even as she stared at the gold in L'chlan's hands. She supposed it didn't matter anymore for her. That was when Rhiskyraenen responded, and she smiled, inwardly pleased at how respectful he was. It took her by surprise, and she started before she flashed a smile at him. That was when she blinked, pursing her lips together in confusion before addressing him again, "Thank you, Rhiskyraenen. But um...did you or did you not want one for yourself? There is one here I will gladly give you." It was while she asked that she packaged up the eggs for the individuals specified, setting them gently at the ready for M'tak and Taliene easily, as the Harper packed hers gently together.

That startled him. Bewildered, he blinked at her. "Me?" he repeated numbly. It was a heartbeat or so before it truly sunk in, and when it did, he furrowed his brow thoughtfully. Did he want a firelizard egg? Did he truly want a firelizard? Why in the world was she offering one to him, anyhow? He wasn't of any import, yet. Well, his mother was, so it could be that, he supposed, but he wasn't. He wasn't really sure he wanted a firelizard, either, truth told. Then again, was there a politic way to refuse? The offer was made in good faith, a rare enough treat to begin with, and refusal would not only be mortally rude on a personal level, but it would be insulting to the intent of the gift. And truly, he didn't object to the idea. After a moment's hesitation, he replied gently, "I wouldn't wish to be a burden. If there are others you'd prefer to give the eggs to, I'll not be offended to miss out. The gesture, however, is greatly appreciated, and if you have them to spare, then I would be honoured to accept." There! That was an answer to do even his father proud.

Syreaka blinked lightly in surprise at Rhiskyraenen. He had given an absolutely wonderful, polite and cordial non-commital answer. The woman gave him a perplexed look, smiling wryly with a faint sigh. She reached up to push the hair from her face before she said, "I do have the spare, Rhiskyraenen, of Bivium." Her voice betrayed only a slight bit of confusion before she smiled again, "If you would like to care for it, it's yours. We both agreed, the Weyr first, yes? Well, this is part of that, in my book at least. However, you can say you do not like it and I will not be offended. I promise."

Rhiskyraenen bowed his head politely. "In that case, I would be honoured to take charge of one of the eggs. No doubt any child of Deltra's will be a beauty." This last, he said to the firelizard directly, as if she could understand him. He knew full well that she couldn't, of course, but there had never been any harm in civility toward pets, and it tended to make their owners happy.

Syreaka smiled up at Rhiskyraenen, brightly at that as she nodded her head. She turned to rumage gently through the eggs, pulling out one delicately and settling it gently into a pot of its own. Covering it with sand, she took every care in the world the egg deserved, before setting the pot next to the ones intended for M'tak. In the meantime, Deltra was staring bright-eyed up at Rhiskyraenen, and when he bowed to the little green, she crooned loudly. Her throat reverberated and she flicked her tail, clearly pleased. She fluttered over to the man and rubbed her head along his hand, as though to demonstrate she understood the feeling of civility and politeness, and appreciated it to no end. Syreaka was finally finished, picking up the pots and bringing them to Rhiskyraenen, "Ok. Yours is the one on this side. The ones for M'tak are in this pot here....well, I suppose it doesn't quite matter who gets which. You don't know what's in them anyways, so..why not?" The woman merely shook her head before she looked up at the much taller man, "And thank you, very much, for being willing to take these to him. If you need help, please just say so. Firelizards aren't hard, but they can be overwhelming at times."

Seldrimme stood nearby, listening. She had come in quietly, half exploring her new place of residence and half searching for a bit of something to eat. She had heard most of the conversation and watched the interactions with some curiosity. It seemed there was a bit of politicking and intrigue involved even in this simple situation. Most interesting to her were the interactions between the girl with the firelizard who had clutched and L’chlan. She listened, picking up names - the girl’s name was Syreaka. Seldrimme got the impression that Syreaka was not used to being challenged - maybe she was a holder’s child or something. The other two men… ah, one was ranked above L’chlan and the other… blonde hair, green eyes, tall and very deferential almost to a fault. “ Who else.. A Harper by the look of her, maybe one she’d seen before at the Collegium. Taliene. L’chlan called her Taliene. And another girl. Dark hair, brown eyes. She’s rather quiet. Bespeaks potential without position.” Seldrimme then turned her eyes to the fire lizards. Neither she nor her brother had ever had one or any sort of creature to take care of. The closest she had come was the cloth one her mother had made for her when she was still really young. Right now it was sitting on her bed and she berated herself for not hiding it under the blanket. She thought about what L’chlan had said, about sharing oneself, about bonding, and she wondered what it would be like to be bonded to one of these creatures. Watching one of them move suddenly she nearly frowned, imaging the damage that could be done by one of the little tails in a room full of dye-pots. Her eyes went for a moment to L’chlan, taking in the sight of him again, and watched as he man-handled his own firelizard. The sight of something so small giving the big man such grief amused Seldrimme quite a bit, and her tail-whipped dye-pot related worries seemed a little smaller now. Perhaps there WAS something a little fantastic in these creatures. At least she’d have something to take back with her when they found out they’d been mistaken about her being able to impress. Maybe Syreaka would let her care for an egg. Seldrimme stepped forward, close enough to be noticed, and smiled at Syreaka.
