Walking promptly into the kitchen caverns, Syreaka was on a mission. Her little firelizard was hungry, and while she was on break from her duties, she had to make sure the poor little creeling green was taken care of! The dark haired woman was dressed in a finely pressed tunic and breeches that had to have just been cleaned, for all they were old. However, despite how impressive or not she may appear, it was clear she was distressed. It wasn't long before time found her pushing through the kitchen drudges when one enterprising woman handed the harried Syreaka a bowl of scraps with the promise of some Klah on the way. Grateful, Syreaka quickly got out of the way, attempting to feed the lizard without causing too much more of a rucus, "Really now, Deltra. You know better than this." The lizard snatched at the food greedily and Syreaka sighed as they set down at the table in the corner, "Fine fine. On the table and I'll feed you."

Ariya whistled a lively tune as she wandered down to the kitchens to find something to eat. Dressed in a blue tunic and black trousers that were tucked into calf-length black boots she wasn't in the height of fashion but Ariya wasn't one to really care about appearances. Oh she made sure she looked nice but she didn't care much for keeping up with fashions. Her green firelizard Circa sat on her shoulder one paw on the teens ear as she trilled happily trying but not succeeding in keeping to the beat Ariya was making. The dark haired teen giggled at her firelizard.
"Silly girl." she muttered as the green's tail suddenly circled around her neck. The teen was used to the flitter's weird quirks though so she didn't mind. She walked into the kitchens glancing around and spotted a girl who also had a green firelizard. The pair were heading to find a seat and Ariya debated going to introduce herself. If she was reading the girl's knots correctly she was a fellow candidate. A moment later she made up her mind. Walking up and getting some meat for herself and Circa she went over to the table the young woman was sitting at.
"Mind if I join you?" Ariya asked tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.

Looking up at the woman who walked closer to her, Syreaka turned her head to the side. Black tendrils of her hair fell over her shoulder a moment as she coolly lifted her gaze to take in the sight of the woman with another green firelizard, and nodded before speaking in her soft voice, "That's fine by me. I'm only feeding Deltra, I don't need the whole table." Syreaka smiled softly, tilting her head to the side for a moment before focusing on her firelizard once more, trying to ensure her companion wasn't neglected. Times were rough as everyone was trying to acclimate to the new times here in this new Weyr. One step at a time, right?

Ariya noticed the cool gaze but didn't think anything of it. She figured the girl was having a long day. She nodded when Syreaka spoke and sat down across from her.
"I understand having a hungry pet. How long have you had Deltra?" Ariya asked tilting her head before blushing a bit and ducking her head. "Sorry, where are my manners. I'm Ariya and this is Circa." she introduced herself and her firelizard. Circa gave hers a curious chirp before scuttling down Ariya's arm to go after the meat.
"You glutton, hold on." the dark haired teen scolded Circa who creeled. She was hungry! Ariya rolled her eyes and grabbing some of the meat cut it into bite sized chunks for the green. Her eyes flickered back to Syreaka as she fed Circa.

Syreaka lovingly stroked Deltra's side, her gaze softening as she looked at her lizard before she blinked, glancing up at Ariya once more, "I've had Deltra for a long time. About three..four years now? I can't quite remember anymore. Either way, she is a dear." Syreaka fed her lizard a bit more as she looked up at Ariya with a light smile, "Greetings. I am Syreaka, and this is Deltra. It is a pleasure." Syreaka figured she'd be polite as it is, and bowed her head slightly, if not regally, to Ariya. She was always taught that manners were important, so Syreaka was not about to dishonor her mother at this point in the game, "It would seem Circa is hungry as well." She couldn't hide her amusement. Firelizards had a perchance for making things either awkward, or breaking the ice. Whichever it was meant to be couldn't matter overly much in the end. They were here with them, and Syreaka wasn't about to have Deltra disappear, particularly since her lizard was very well trained as it was.

Ariya smiled as Syreaka introduced herself. "A pleasure to meet you as well Syreaka." she replied. At Syreaka's comment Ariya nodded. "Yes well it is the time we normally would eat." she agreed chuckling.
"I've had Circa for a while too. I love her to death." Ariya commented smiling at her firelizard. Circa chirped happily as she took a last piece of meat and scuttled back up to perch on Ariya's shoulder.
"So are you a candiate too?" she asked out of curiosity. She was pretty sure she'd read the knots right but being from a caravan she was still getting used to rank despite being a harper apprentice for the past three turns. Of course if she impressed at the clutch then she'd have to learn a whole new system of rank. She pushed that thought to the back of her mind. She'd worry about that later.

Syreaka nodded, feeding another piece of meat to Deltra, who greedily choked it down as quickly as she could. Syreaka stared at the lizard until she slowed down, eatting the last bit of food before curling on her mistress's shoulder. It was then that Syreaka turned her attention back to Ariya, "I am a candidate." Syreaka was somewhat surprised that Ariya wasn't quite sure who she was. Either way, she supposed it really didn't matter. Her encouter with that Rhis fellow earlier that morning had left her a little more self concious than normal, "I hail from the Eastern Weyr. I just hope that this clutch hatches happy, healthy." ...And with a dragonette for herself."From the sounds of it, you're a candidate too then, hm?

Ariya nodded. "I am and I can't wait for the clutch either." she replied and added, "I want it to be healthy and all the babies to impress safely." A slim hand reached up to stroke Circa who crooned happily.
"So you're from the east? Is it any different from here?" she asked curiously as a drudge brought some klah. "Thank you." Ariya said and the drudge nodded as she sat down a glass in front of Ariya and Syreaka before heading off. Ariya reached for her glass and blew on it to cool it off before turning her attention back to Syreaka.

Syreaka listened quietly to Ariya, her head tilted slightly to the side politely before she finally nodded, "I understand. That is an admirable hope, though you do realize that is not always the case, yes? I'm not out to cause a dim thought, but it is a possibility and one you should be aware of. " The woman's smooth voice was silent for a moment as she lifted her own mug of klah to her lips, sipping lightly as she thought of how to respond next to the question posed to her, "Yes. It is different. In Eastern, if anyone were to breathe a word about a woman being unable to do something, my mother would have jumped down their throats faster than you could think. She was very demanding, and not afraid to make sure things ran her way. I suppose when you're Weyrwoman, that's what you're supposed to look out for, but I'm not too certain. Here, it's different. There is more chaos because of everyone having just moved and attempting to get settled, and I am not too certain that a wing from either Weyr was a good idea or a bad one."

Ariya nodded. "I understand it may not happen but there's no reason I can't hope for it all the same." she replied and paused to listen to Syreaka before nodding again.
"I have to agree, things are pretty chaotic around here." she agreed taking a sip of klah.
"My mother was never really outspoken. Oh she made her opinions known but she was always the gentle on of the family." Ariya commented, smiling a bit. She tilted her head a bit.
"You have any siblings?" she asked out of curiosity.

Syreaka nodded, "I was raised in a Weyr. I suppose that has somewhat brought me to terms with the fact, rather than anything else. I tend to be a realist, or try to be." The woman shrugged, idly stroking the now sleepy firelizard that lay on the table beside her. The distended belly of the lizard was visible, and Syreaka smiled dotingly at the little creature with a light chuckle before she glanced back at Ariya, her silver-grey eyes someone betraying surprise at the thought of 'siblings'. The woman pursed her lips before she shook her head, "No. I don't have any siblings. For dragonriders, it's difficult to produce children because they go Between. For me, I'm not certain if I was a fluke, or deliberate...but no. There has been no one after me that I know of. I doubt Threaka would have really cared for it."

Ariya nodded. "My parents were part of a traveling trade caravan. We were never really in one place for long." she explained and added, "I don't have any siblings either. After me my mother couldn't have any more children." she paused a moment.
Her mother had never blamed her for being unable to have anymore children but Ariya had always felt like her father did. He never outright said anything but the tension was there sometimes. She shook her head a bit.
"Sorry, I was remembering something." she said and added, "So how did you come to be here? Were you transferred?" Ariya's head tilted curiously though Syreaka couldn't have missed the moment of sadness that had flickered through Ariya's eyes.

Syreaka was quiet for a while after Ariya asked her the question. She was shocked. She thought everyone knew who Threaka was, and what the woman was about. Anyone who knew about the Eastern Weyrwoman would have automatically known that the woman would never have allowed anyone to raise her child. After all, who could have done it better than Threaka? Syreaka's keen eyes picked up on the sadness, but she said absolutely nothing before she said frankly, "Threaka is Eastern's Weyrwoman, Ariya. She'd never have let anyone raise her child but her." Better to be honest and abrupt about it, than anything else. Perhaps there really were people who didn't know, so it was probably better to give the woman the benefit of the doubt. She sighed, "The rest is I was brought here from Eastern to stand as a candidate for the Golds." With any luck, she'd not have to explain more than that.

Ariya blinked at the abrupt words, a slight frown flickering across her face. She knew who the weyrwomen were. Her mother hadn't neglected to teach her that. Of course she didn't know anything about them other then their rank and that Threaka was very independent. Obviously that had passed onto her daughter as well. She nodded at Syreaka's comment on standing for the golds.
"Well, you would certainly do better then me for one. I'm too much of a dreamer for a gold." she replied shrugging a bit. "Anyway, I'd better get going. It was nice meeting you. Best of luck come hatching." she said brightly. Circa chirped sleepily from her perch as Ariya stood to leave. It had been nice getting to know Syreaka though she was of a different mold then Ariya. Oh well, it didn't mean they couldn't be friends eventually. She would just have to see what happened.

Syreaka nodded at Ariya, smiling lightly up at her with a tilt of her head, "Thank you. And who knows, it's not us who choose the dragons, but that the dragons choose us. I wouldn't worry about it that much. Who knows...though you flatter me and I thank you for the compliment about what I am fit for." With that, the woman stood up, Deltra cared for as the little lizard went between to rest elsewhere. Syreaka gave Ariya a small bob of a curtsey, "It was a pleasure meeting you as well. I do hope we see each other again as well and on such good terms again. Good luck to you." Directly afterwards, Syreaka left the room smoothly. She had work to do that she just recalled, and it was no small thing to try to believe that it could be left alone until later. She'd just have to weather it out, walking towards the exit with a final wave to Ariya.
